Counseling vs. Life Coaching

In counseling, the goal is to diagnose the client with a mental health issue, and create a treatment plan & apply appropriate interventions to address a mental health issue.  Also, in counseling, the counselor will listen to you, provide some possible interventions, and will not provide advice.

In life coaching, the coach will listen to you, help you define goals, and create a plan for action.  Also, if applicable, advice is provided to help you overcome any challenges or issues.  The goal of life coaching is to help clients understand their present moment, and act towards making a change to improve their overall quality of life.

Counseling and life coaching are both therapeutic, great options for self-care, and they both help you feel supported & proactive in working on your personal development. However, if you are feeling anxious, depressed, or having issues coping with a mental health issues, then it is highly recommended to seek the advice of your primary care doctor and therapist.  Otherwise, if you are dealing with difficult life situations, and need some direction to overcome obstacles, then life coaching is a great option as well!
